Let us contemplate on the process of meditation to enter into transcendental state…Turiya.
There are 2 types of experiences. Experience of the world, which I call ‘loukika’, and the experience beyond the world ‘transcendental’ or turiya. There are 2 types of experiences, loukika or transcendental, empirical, or transcendental. There are two.
In empirical experience, there is an object, subject, and knowledge. Knower, known and knowledge, 3 are there. In transcendental experience, the knower, known and the knowledge …all of them merge into pure knowledge or pure awareness. This is the transcendental experience. The experience of the world, by empirical experience, is because of the mind. But, the transcendental experience is not because of the mind, but because of the pure awareness, Sakshi. It is not a mental experience. But it is Sakshi. To enter into a transcendental experience is called Samadhi.
People have a concept of Samadhi, that it is like death-like state, the heartbeat stops, breathing stops, because heartbeat stops, breathing stops, the mind stops. But the real meaning of Samadhi is not that. ‘Dhi’ means Budhi, Samadhi means, the Budhi, which is purely balanced and non-judgemental is a state of Samadhi. It is a state of awareness. The budhi which is the highest faculty of body/mind, intellect is the highest faculty, that goes into a state of non-judgmental awareness similar to Sakshi. It is not a state of heartbeat stopping, breath stopping, even though it looks fantastic, the real meaning of Samadhi is, because ignorance has gone, Budhi has non-judgemental and Budhi has taken the form of Sakshi. It is the state of awareness, it is the state of Samadhi.
So, there are 2 types of experiences, loukika, and paramarthika. Loukika or empirical, paramarthika, or transcendental. The transcendental experience is a pure awareness, where Budhi has become still or non-judgemental. Now, we have to consider 2 situations: how to enter into a paramarthika or transcendental/Samadhi state?
The Self is non-dual. Awareness is non-dual. There is no way, awareness can become aware of itself or know itself. Awareness can know everything. Eyes can see everything, all colors, but cannot see itself. The tongue can taste everything, but cannot taste itself. Like that, the Self can become aware of everything, but not itself. But, the problem is whatever Self becomes aware of something, it is an object. In reality, there is no object. Because Self alone exists. The object is not a reality. An object is a dream-like reality, or Maya or appearance. So, using your sharpened Budhi, you have to reduce those objects into the root form. Everything, you have to go back to Sath, chith, ananda. Sath means existence, chith means Consciousness, ananda.
So, I am seeing the chair. Where is the chair? The chair is in my awareness, the chair is in my Consciousness. This is the first thing. The chair is existence, sath, and chith. Everything what comes to your mind as an object, you have reduce it back into the form of sath, chith, ananda. Then the subject-object duality collapses. Then you enter into a state of turiya, which is like a deep sleep state, but pure awareness is there. In sleep, there are no objects. There is no body, no mind, there is no world. But, the body, mind, and the world have gone to a subtler form, because ignorance has not gone. Ignorance of Budhi is not gone. Now, in turiya, because Budhi is sharpened by using logic and scriptures, Budhi has become pure and it has taken the form of Sakshi. That is why the world, body, and mind are known to be non-real. What is reality is Consciousness. That is why you enter into a state of transcendental state. Dissolve into Samadhi.
Now, the Samadhi is called, which is a state of Samadhi. But, the Samadhi has to be sahaja Samadhi or natural Samadhi. Your loukika or empirical experience also has to become a transcendental experience, while you are walking, talking. The moment you come back from Samadhi, again the mind takes over. The Budhi takes over. Again, see the world. The name and form are superimposed on your thought process. For which, you need to know how to stay in the transcendental state while walking, talking, that is called sahaja Samadhi. Is it possible? It is possible, provided you understand that the mind stays either in the past or future. The mind cannot be in the present. If you know, how to keep the mind in the present, all the time, then you are in Sath. That is why you should develop your awareness of Ajna and Sahasrara. When there is a pulsation or vibration there, your mind is not drifting into the past or future. It is in the present moment. The vibration is energy. You start experiencing your body as energy, and when you experience your body as energy, you start experiencing the world as energy, Shakthi.
As your mind becomes more subtle, possibly you will experience the body as light, and possibly you will experience your body as ‘Omkara’, sound. Because of that, when you experience the world also, you experience the world as Sath-existence, and vibration, which is energy, light, and Omkara. So, even in waking state, you retain the state of Samadhi. That is called sahaja Samadhi. For which, you need to meditate, make your mind subtle, subtle, subtle. Experience the energy form of your body and mind. And retain that energy form of body and mind, with the help of Sahasrara, during walking, talking all aspects. So, you will experience God in a waking state. And this experience of God is actually ‘Saguna Brahma’. Whereas in turiya what you experience is ‘Nirguna Brahma’ or’Parabrahma’. Otherwise, what will happen is, in turiya, you enter into a transcendental state, again you will come back, that state is lost. You need to maintain the continuity.
Pranams.
