Today let us contemplate on Self awareness for Brahman. We have told earlier, all that is there is Brahman only. All that is there is Consciousness only. Nobody can know Brahman, neither Brahman can know anybody, because all that is there is Consciousness only.
Now the question comes, is Brahman aware of itself? If Brahman is aware of itself, then Brahman becomes the subject and object. That is something other than Brahman. So, it is not possible. Brahman being aware of itself is not possible. For example: the Sun lights up everything. Awareness of Brahman shines everything in the empirical sense. Sun shines, in the light of Sun, everything can be seen. But, does the Sunlight itself? Fire burns everything which comes in contact with fire. If nothing is there in contact with the fire, does the fire burn itself? Similarly, Brahman being pure awareness, can light anything and everything in the empirical sense, but Brahman itself cannot become Self-aware. Because, if it becomes Self-aware, then there is subject-object duality.
Let us say, there is a person who has realized Brahman. Is he aware of himself as Brahman? Or is he conscious of Brahman Consciousness? Both are not true. Because both convert that Brahman into an object. He simply is Brahman. If somebody says ‘I know Brahman’, then he doesn’t know Brahman, because nobody can know Brahman. You can just be, without a subject/object duality. That is the experience of Brahman. An experience, without an experiencer.
The nature of Brahman is pure awareness, which is pure knowledge. In that, there is no other knowledge possible. It is pure knowledge. Even knowledge as Brahman itself, invalidates that knowledge because it becomes subject-object duality. All that we can say is, Brahman is pure awareness.
