Self-Knowledge Talk 25: Guru principle in our enemies

Q: What is the Guru principle in our enemies or adversaries?

Today, let us contemplate on Guru principle in our adversaries or enemies. As I told you, Guru tattva or Guru principle exists in all aspects of creation. How about our enemies? People, who make or create trouble for us? Do you know one interesting thing in today’s corporate world? Every corporate or every company tries to learn from their competitors. The benchmark is the competitors. In Fact, the companies follow the competitors so closely that many times they know about their competitors more than the company knows about itself. They have a deep understanding of the competitors. They try to learn from their competitors and try to improve.

So, the first thing in our life is our competitors are not our adversaries. The competitors, the people who are competing with us, are there for us. They are there to teach us something. The Guru principle works through our competitors. Don’t feel jealous of the competitors. Don’t feel jittery about the competitors. Try to learn from their strengths. Try to learn from their weaknesses. Instead of feeling jealous, instead of feeling jittery about your competitors, you can learn a lot. Learn from their strengths and improve yourself.  Learn from weaknesses and correct yourself. This is how we learn from the Guru principle in our competitors.

What about people who create trouble for us? You have to realize that all aspects of our life, our friends, our families, including our enemies or including people who trouble us, are all our karmic connections. Somewhere, we have been linked to them, thro’ karmic bondage. Now, when somebody creates trouble for us, it is not the person who is creating trouble for us. The person is here, to take out some of the negative karma or the bad karma, which you have done, in your life. The person is just incidental. Is just instrumental, to help in removing our negative/bad karma. What do you learn from that?

First of all, if somebody has done something bad to you, maybe cheated, the learning for you is, how to be alert/aware. Something is happening to you which is not desirable. The person is there, just as an instrument, to take out your negative karma. No need to get depressed or feel bad about the situation. The karma/karmic impressions are there, only for us to teach/learn. What we need to learn is, in a given adverse circumstance, how we can maintain our mental balance. How we can be peaceful.

If we learn this karmic lesson in our life, no future learning is required in that particular aspect of karma and this will not repeat. Learn how to be alert. Learn the message behind the action of the person. And learn to be equanimous in any given circumstance. We should learn how to see the Guru principle even in our adversaries. Then we will not have jealousy in life, hatred in life and more importantly, we won’t feel a victim of circumstances. We are not victims of circumstances. The Divine light is shining in your heart. The Atma Jyothi is shining in your heart. Never feel a victim of any circumstance. You are responsible for your life.
