Question:
Prabhuji, in Bhagavad Gita Shri Krishna tells that realised beings are non-violent. So, can’t soldiers be enlightened beings ?
Sri Prabhuji:
Soldiers are enlightened warriors. They will fight against adharma as duty. It is like soldier fighting for country.
The teaching of vedas is ahimsa paramo dharma. Himsa tathaiva cha. Non violence is Supreme dharma. But violence (himsa) to protect dharma is also Dharma.
Ahimsa (non violence) means not doing works for selfish reason. Do not hurt anybody for selfish reason. On the other hand if somebody tries to hurt you, defending yourself (fighting) also is considered non-violence.
