Question: In shat Sampatti, why is it that Shama comes first in the order and then comes Dhama?

Shama is related to control of mind and dama is related to control of sense organs. Mind is the master of the sense organs. Mind has to have clarity and focus before it can control sense organs. Mind is totally distracted by thousands of thoughts and goals in life. When the mind starts getting clarity about goal of SELF realizaton, mind is able to focus internally. This is called shama. With shama, the mind is able to control external sense organs. It is called dama. Shama comes first because clarity in the mind is important and then dama follows.
