I am struggling with development of spiritual qualities – Shama…etc. What should I do ?
Don’t struggle !. Shama dama etc is naturally imbibed in 16 years of Gurukul study in ancient times. These qualities developed as students did service to guru. However if you want to develop yourself hard way, you need to work with ego which is not right solution.
When you meet Sadguru, his teachings will bring shama dama naturally not forcefully. Real shama dama comes from discrimination and not by force. When the mind moves towards Self, shama dama etc are natural.
When you try to develop shama dama etc ego plays a role. When done under the guidance of master no role for ego.
For modern day my prescription in Atmano mokshartham Jagad Hitaya cha. Self realization through shravana- manana-nidhidhyas and service (seva) for jnana yajna. Spiritual qualities naturally develop with this.
In reality Shat sampatti was basic qualification to meet jnani Guru in ancient times. However in modern times if you meet jnani Guru due to good karma spiritual qualities will naturally develop due to his/her teachings. Service is the key, surender is the key not ego.
