Question:
“Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śharaṇaṁ vraja” In this shloka, why is Krishna asking us to give up all our dharmas (duties) and surrender to him? We can be performing our dharma and still surrender to him, right? Is He asking, in reality, to give up doership? or give up attachments to results?
Sri Prabhuji:
Sarva Dharman = means all Karma; giving up karma means giving up doership; giving up doership means giving up identification with the body – I am not the body; Sharanam vraja means Oneness of Jivatma Paramatma ; sarva papebhyo means freedom from Samsara = mukti.
Doership(I am doing) to be dropped. Dharma means karma here. I am doer has to be dropped.
