Life is all about connected Opposites. Happiness-unhappiness, cold-hot, joy-sorrow, good-bad, beauty-ugly, life-death…
Connected Opposites are like two faces of a coin. One cannot exist without the other. Hot cannot be there without the cold, good without bad etc. This pair of connected Opposites is called dualism (dvandva).
Dualism is essential for nature. Nature is like a painting. Painting cannot be done with one colour. Black-white two colours are needed for creativity.
Objects of world including body appear in consciousness like a dream. Consciousness identifies with one body and treats other objects as seperate. This subject object split is called duality.
Dualism (dvandva) is never a problem. We try to hold on to one aspect of dualism good/bad, happiness/unhappiness, life/death…This is unnatural since life is connected opposites.
Duality not dualism is cause of suffering in life.
In duality (dvaita) we try to hold on to one aspect of life and reject the other due to attraction (raga), and repulsion (dvesha).
Raga and dvesha born out of duality (subject object split) causes immense suffering in life. It is called samsara.
