Sri Ramana speaks about knot of heart called chit Jada granthi. Chit means consciousness, Jada means inert matter. Ego (mind) is the connection between consciousness and matter.
In reality consciousness and matter cannot be connected by any means. Consciousness and matter have totally different properties. Consciousness is real while matter is unreal.
It is like mixing water and oil having different characteristics.
Breaking of chit Jada granthi (ego) is liberation. Breaking can happen only due to discrimination – jnana not otherwise. Realising that ego is not real is breaking of chit-jada granthi.
