Life is a play of consciousness and nature (Shiva and Shakti). In Sanskrit consciousness is called purusha and nature is called prakriti. Purusha and prakriti are the masculine and feminine principles.
In other Indian languages purusha is translated as man and woman is called stree.
A monk refused meeting Meera Bai famous saint because he had taken vow of not meeting woman. Meera Bai replied to him saying only Shree Krishna is Purusha (consciousness )all men and woman are stree (Prakriti).
In spirituality stree is not just woman but man also ! One who is identified with three qualities of nature (prakriti) satva-rajas-tamas is called Stree irrespective of gender.
