The english word “spell” means mantra or chants of hypnotic words. Casting spell means hypnotizing/charming through words.
Name and forms are the words. Words project the world we experience. The world is unreal (mithya) – maya. In other words our words “cast spell” of maya on us and hence in English language we use the word “spelling”.
