Life is a play (Leela or Drama) of consciousness. The dream projected is called maya. In the dream world, consciousness wears a dress (Vesha) called physical body for playing a role in drama. During the play consciousness identifies with the body and gets deeply involved. In a sense consciousness gets posessed (Avesha) by the happening. Identifying with the dress (Vesha) consciousness appears to be posessed (Avesha) by the dress. Due to this it appears that drama of life appears to be a trauma of life.
In reality nothing has happened to consciousness. Waking up from the dream of life is called is enlightenment. Enlightened life is the real spiritual significance of Deepavali.
