Stateless State

All of us go through waking, dreaming and deep sleep states everyday. These changing states are superimposed changeless reality (Turiya) which is stateless state.

  1. Waking State (Jagrat):
The waking state is where the waker personality exists. This state is associated with sensory experiences and external reality.
  2. Dream State (Swapna):
In the dream state, the waker personality disappears, and the dreamer personality emerges. This state arises purely from the impressions (vasanas) stored in the mind.
  3. Deep Sleep (Sushupti):
In deep sleep, both the waker and dreamer personalities dissolve. There is no perception of external or internal worlds—only a state of pure ignorance and rest.
  4. Turiya (The Fourth State):
Beyond these three states lies Turiya, the state of pure consciousness, or the SELF. It is not a “state” in the conventional sense but the substratum that witnesses all three passing states. Turiya is unchanging, eternal, and stateless—beyond waking, dreaming, and deep sleep.

In summary:
The SELF (Atman) is the witness of the three states. It is never affected by their coming and going. Turiya represents the ultimate, unchanging reality—a state of pure awareness, transcending all duality.
