Name and Form (Nama Rupa)

Consciousness alone is real. World is unreal (Brahma Satya, Jagat Mithya) is the teaching of Vedanta.
What is the meaning of unreality of the world ? Objects of the world have name and form. World is nothing but collection of name and form. Form arises from the sense perception and naming is done by the mind. Senses being very limited cannot sense reality. Mind gives name to limited reporting of senses. It is like blind men trying to figure out elephant. Sense and mind are like blind men trying to figure out what reality is there as world.

Reporting of sense organs and mind is unreal (mithya). Reality out there which appears as world is nothing but Brahman falsely reported as world by sense organs and mind. Hence Brahma Satyam Jagat Mithya really means “World is not real as name and form. But world is Brahman only”.

In reality the form reported by sense organs is nothing but formless Brahman only. The name reported by mind is nothing but nameless Brahman only. Form points to formless, name points to nameless Reality. Everything is Brahman (Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma)
