Pointless Point

A point is called Bindu in Sanskrit.

In geometry, point is represented as dot. As per geometry point is dimension less (no height, length or breadth). In other words the point is “pointless”. The “point” is only notional.

In Vedanta Brahman is dimensionless.

Yoga and tantra refer to Bindu a point where Shiva and Shakti become one.
The bindu is dimensionless. Essentially the bindu (point) is really dimensionless Sindhu (oceanic) representing the formless reality of Brahman.

Bindu as notional point represents the microcosmic reality of Brahman called Jivatman. Bindu as pointless point represents the oceanic dimensionless cosmic reality Brahman (Paramatman). In other words jivatman paramatma ekatvam is represented as dimensionless bindu (drop) which is in essence sindhu(ocean).

The enlightened one who realizes Sindhu in Bindu is called Hindu (Persian language). Land where enlightened beings lived was called Sindhustan (oceanic people) later came to be known as Hindustan due to Persian language.
