Some of the enlightened beings are called Avadhutas in Bharat. The behaviour of Avadhutas is unpredictable as per societal norms since enlightenment is going above and beyond mind (superconsious mind). A madmans behaviour also is unpredictable since he has fallen below mind(subconcious mind).
Bharatiyas understand that it is difficult to recognize difference in the behaviour of madman and Godman (enlightened sage). Since society cannot distinguish between the two, Bharatiya society sometimes recognises madman also as Godman which is better than treating a Godman as madman and disrespecting such a great Being.
Enlightened sage Avadhutas fall in to the category of Divine madness because of their eccentric behaviour. However internally Avadhutas are peaceful and tranquil while madman is disturbed.
